Event Details
The Region of Durham funded the Durham Community Action Group (DCAG) to host a youth-led and youth-focused event addressing the issue of community violence. One of the ways DCAG decided to promote antiviolence, has been through art. Youth artists from across the Durham region were invited to create an art piece for this exhibit.
On August 1st, in conjunction with the Durham Region’s Emancipation Event, the DCAG hosted an anti-violence program, and due to such positive reception of the youth artwork, DCAG partnered with the Pickering Public Library to display the art pieces the Pickering Central Library during the month of October.
Who Are the Artists?
The artwork you see displayed were created by 23 youth artists, age ranging from 13 to 21. These artists spent over a month diligently working on these pieces and have produced phenomenal work! The artists all focused on different aspects of anti-violence, whether that it was violence in the form of bullying, racism, hate, war, self-harm, or more.
