Program Description

Event Details

Come together for an informative, interactive, and intentional time to learn about the tradition of hair braiding and protective styles in Black culture. We’ll be having a demonstration of natural and protective hairstyles, an overview of haircare products, and a Q&A session on caring for Black hair.

Participants will receive a take home kit so they can continue practicing their hair braiding skills after the program!

Sarah-Naomi is a natural and protective hairstylist based in Durham Ontario and the founder and owner of Sarah-Naomi’s Hair Care & Beauty “where the beautification of the whole woman is my focus and purpose”.

She has been doing hair for over 15 years and she believes knowledge and love of self is the KEY to the unlocking of new and higher levels of our existence and confidence. Sarah learned about braiding and natural hair care from her beautiful mother. Yvette Anderson, a Guyanese native who took the time to teach her and her sister about their hair, African styles and how to make sure we always looked presentable. Her mother taught her children basic braiding skills and Sarah went ahead and continued to learn and keep up to date with the current trends. Both of her parents made sure we knew the importance of their African heritage and the role it plays in how they show up in the world.

Hair education is a passion of Sarah’s, and she’s committed to teaching what she knows while bringing others with her on her journey.
