Program Description

Event Details

Come and learn about the life cycle of monarch butterflies, the importance of butterflies in the environment and how to save them. Participants will have an opportunity to observe live monarch eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises and butterflies. Milkweed plant seeds will be handed out to help save the monarch butterflies. This program is in partnership with local Pickering child expert, Avangeline who is 8 years old!

Avangeline and her family live in Pickering. She is a fun and adventurous 8 year old girl who loves everything about nature from fungi to insects.  She has an extraordinary passion for bugs and worms ever since she was a toddler.  For the past few years, Avangeline and her family have been helping the endangered monarch butterfly population by planting milkweeds and protecting monarch caterpillars from predators.  Avangeline has a natural gift in getting people who were afraid to touch caterpillars to be comfortable and actually enjoy holding them.
