Filing your taxes each year unlocks benefits you may be eligible to receive. Have a modest income and a simple tax situation? Get your taxes filed by the community volunteer income tax program (CVITP) and the Mobile ID team from the Region of Durham.

To register for a session, you must have a modest annual income and simple tax situation.

A modest income for a 1-person family is up to $35,000; for a 2-person family, it is up to $45,000. The income threshold increases by $2,500 for each additional person in your household.

Tax situations that are not simple, include tax returns with:

  • Self-employment income or employment expenses
  • Business income and expenses

  • Interest income over $1,000
  • Capital gains or losses
  • Bankruptcy in the current tax year (or year before, if the return has not yet been filed)
