About the Presenter: Dr. Natasha Henry-Dixon is an assistant professor of African Canadian History at York University. The 2018 Vanier Scholar is researching the complex history of the enslavement of Black people in colonial Ontario. Her many publications include the chapters “Sold as a Slave for Life: Black Enslavement in Colonial Canada” (2024), a number of youth-focused titles, and several entries for the Canadian Encyclopedia on African Canadian history. She is currently working on her forthcoming manuscript tentatively titled, One Too Many: Black People Enslaved in Upper Canada, 1760 – 1834. Her multifaceted work reflects her unwavering commitment to researching, preserving, and sharing the histories of Black Canadians, making her a vital voice in the field.

The Local History Speaker Series is a quarterly event featuring a presentation from a different guest speaker on an engaging topic of local history. Come by for a one-hour in-person presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions of knowledgeable presenters.  Registration is required for these events.
